Het beste nummer sinds jaren?

Wie is het met me eens?
Somebody that I used to know
Ik vind dit nummer ronduit briljant. De meeste liedjes die ik een paar keer achter elkaar hoor gaan vervelen, maar deze blijft gewoon mooi.
Waarom? Eigenlijk is het een somber liedje, dat gaat over de bedroefdheid en boosheid na een mislukte relatie. Geen origineel thema. Wat maakt dit nummer zo bijzonder?
Wat de zanger (van oorsprong een Belg!) knap doet is het creëren van tegenpolen. De bedroefdheid over iets dat niet werkt verandert ineens in boosheid over een afstandelijke ex ('but you did n't have to cut me off.).
Maar het nummer wordt echt bijzonder vanaf het moment dat Kimbra mee gaat zingen. Tot dat moment is het vooral een navelstaarderig nummer waarin de zanger zichzelf min of meer als slachtoffer neerzet. Ineens komt ook de ex aan het woord. En uit haar tekst ('now and then I think about all the times you screwed me over..') blijkt dat, zoals ook in het echte leven, dingen toch wat complexer zijn en de waarheid meerdere versies heeft.
Dit nummer wordt een klassieker: een nummer dat we nog vaak zullen horen en dat vast ergens een plekje krijgt in de top 100 aller tijden.

Dit nummer heeft al vele records gebroken. Denk dat deze inderdaad de boeken in gaat als een klassieker (hoewel dat natuurlijk even tijd nodig heeft).
Vind het nummer ook fantastisch overigens, maar weet niet of ik het nummer het beste sinds jaren zou noemen. Komt wel in de buurt van perfectie, dat wel.

Geheel mee eens dat dit een klassieker in de maak. Zonder twijfel ook mijn favoriete track van afgelopen jaar. Zit muzikaal perfect in elkaar. De tekst is simpel, goed verstaanbaar, iedereen kan zich erin vinden in some way or another en er zit een stukje gevoelens van mannen tegen vrouwen of andersom in. Ideale mix om zowat iedereen te bereiken.
