Hi

I'm going to work abroad!

But I'm a little concerned about my English, so maybe I can practise it here a little?

Wanna join?

Hehe

Aren't you the one who needed to improve her political vocabulary?

If you want to practise, I'm here :-)

Practise=verb

Practice=noun

Practice and practise are both correct.

Practice is a noun, practise is a verb.

Hm, I don't think so Steph, I thought it's practising ...

Difficult English Words

Practise / Practice

In many parts of the English speaking world (UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada, and South Africa) “practice” is the noun, “practise” the verb. However, in the U.S.A the spelling “practice” is more often used for both the noun and the verb. Contrary to popular belief a significant minority of the American population also observe the distinction. If you are not sure about what a verb or noun is, it might be safer to just use the spelling "practice", as many Americans do!

You're right Kym, but Americans do tend to use 'practice' as a verb, though.

Did you ever take a test or anything? Like at the British Council for example? Don't worry, when you have to speak English all day you'll get used to it. You don't have to be fluent I guess?

Sorry, I forgot to mention the website: http://www.world-english.org/practise_practice.htm

Maybe this is of any help?

@fladder, in the UK they won't appreciate you using practice as a verb, however!

So it depends on your audience.

Yes, unfortunately, that's me. But actually, I think it's just ok to just write a bit (), not to talk about politicians and other (boring) stuff

Pff, it's already hard to write now I guess...

I'm famous for that

Kym, just start to read everything in English from now on. That'll help a lot. Where are you going? Africa, right?

Can't help myself..... I'm a language freak!
Alle reacties Link kopieren
And no Digi, I don't have to speak it fluently and I'm happy for that!

Besides that I'll work in a French team and since their English isn't that great in general (?) I think it'll be ok...but well, it's exciting...

Me too! A freak and a language freak Just freaky, I guess.

If you want to practise your French, I can help as well...

Alle reacties Link kopieren
And yes, i'll be Africa. But in a country where Englisch is their native language.
Alle reacties Link kopieren
That's silly! In my defense; it was changed by the spelling check (Google Chrome). But still silly...

There are a few exceptions but most people aren't fluent in their second or third language.

(By the way, I'd say 'Besides, .... instead of 'besides that')
