Hi Kym,
I'll be happy to talk some English here. I've lived abroad for a year and after that worked for a company in The Nethterlands where the soul language was English. It was long ago though and I don't use it anymore at all. It is good to keep practising. So let's talk

I'm not doing anything at the moment, Kym. I don't feel well today. Stomach problems and the like.
The first book I read in English was The Silence of the lambs when I was 14. Reading helps a lot, but avoid the internet since people make so many mistakes. I make mistakes as well, but I like to believe that my mistakes aren't that bad

Well Robo, normally I wouldn't do that, but since Kym wants to improve her English it's for the greater good I'm not trying to make someone feel bad, but I'm just trying to help. Feel free to correct my mistakes as well!
It's harder to correct other stuff, by the way. I usually correct only grammatical mistakes. But 'helping in improving...' is also wrong; I'd say 'it helps to improve....' or 'it helps improving...'

Hi Kym,
When are you leaving to work abroad? It sounds exciting. Anyway, I find that there's a big difference between being able to speak English and writing...writing is much harder, imo. I live in the Netherlands, but I work with several internationals so I speak English every day. Also because I'm dating an English guy who makes fun of my American accent (but I think most Dutchies tend to have more of an American accent than a British one). I wouldn't worry too much about your English though, I'm sure you'll get used to it quickly.
I think my English sounds better than my writing. In writing, there are all these subtle differences...you don't use lots of commas in English while you do in Dutch. Oh, and as my American friends told me: never say 'how do you call...' when you can't think of the right word, you should say 'what do you call...'

I'm going to work for a non-governmental organization in a very poor country in Africa where a lot things have to be rebuild.
My job will be coaching, organising and coordinating a team of nurses and together we will go into the field, visiting people who got psychiatric troubles. Heavy stuff, but I can't wait!

Yes, I have an American accent. But thank God it actually sounds American instead of a Dutch kid trying to be cool. I can get myself a British accent but it's just harder and I'm lazy
What you can do is compare English to the Dutch translation. That improves your English as well.
